2008 Winter Workshops
Universal Paper Cutting Larry Moffet
Learn basic techniques of folding and cutting paper to create intricate and ornate patterns. Design your own patterns using photographs or reference materials from home (kids drawings for instance). Your designs can make beautiful Valentines or other cards. Class will be held at Seamark. For adults only. Bring a bag lunch to class.
Larry is a self-taught paper cutter and artist. He lives on Deer Isle with his family and is a fisherman by trade.
Flip Books Mary Howe
Flip books make drawings come alive! They're fun to create and use. With the drawing you make in class, you will be able to put together your own animated story. After class, you will be treated to a free matinee starting at 3 PM. This school winter break workshop is another great collaboration between Seamark and Opera House Arts. Don't miss it! (Popcorn not included).
Class will be held at the Opera House in Stonington and is recommended for ages 9 and up. Younger children will need to be accompanied by an adult.
Mary maintains a studio in Stonington where she creates unique books, small edition books and boxes.
Ukrainian-Style Easter Eggs Michael Stasiuk
A traditional technique with an untraditional look. Using beeswax as a resist for your designs and brilliant dyes, you can create Easter eggs that you will want to save for years. Class will be held at Seamark. For both adults and children. Bring a bag lunch to class.
Michael is a sculptor and creator of large performance puppets, which he makes with children for celebrations around the world.
Magical Mosaic Michele Levesque
Turn any surface into a beautiful mosaic using traditional and non-traditional materials. Bring along those sea shells, stones, sea glass, extra scrabble tiles, and broken plates and we'll provide the materials to turn a clay pot or stepping stone into a masterpiece. This workshop will allow you time to design your piece, complete the tiling process, and learn the finishing touches of grouting and polishing. Class will be held at Seamark. For both adults and children. Bring a bag lunch to class on Saturday.
Michele is an artist living and working in Sargentville. She exhibits internationally and her work is in private collections in the US and Europe. She spent eight years teaching all forms of art and art history to middle school students before relocating to Maine to work in her studio and manage, with her husband, Coast to Coast Fine Arts and El El Frijoles.
Full or partial scholarships are available for all classes.
