Seamark Workshops Summer 2003

Summer Schedule for adults and children.

Classes will take place on Tuesdays and Thursdays
from 1 to 4 p.m.

at the Seamark Building on Church Street in the village of Deer Isle.
Most class are limited to eight participants so register early.
The cost of each week (two classes) is $37 plus the materials fee.
There are full & partial scholarships and family rates available.

10% off class fees for full payment at least one week before class starts.

July 8 & 10
Personalized Dolls with Buzz Masters and Jennifer Morrow Wilson
from 1 to 4 p.m.
Make personalized dolls using an image transfer, scraps of cloth, beads, yarn, buttons and stuffing. We will start with a black and while Xerox copy of a face, transfer it and add it to a body form which can be embellished, stitched and stuffed.

Fee $37. Materials $5.


July 14-18
Island Arts Camp


July 22
Art Hats with Jennifer Morrow Wilson
from 1 to 4 p.m.
Make a wild hat out of fleece fabric, cardboard, foam and other materials. Add trim, beads, buttons, paint and/or ribbons. Use it for a prop in Randy's class, wear it for special occasions or hang it on your wall.

Fee $18. Materials$3.


July 24
Vaudeville Skills with Randy Judkins
Discover the fine art of slapstick and the difference between truth and the treatment of it. Create comedic characters through simple and eccentric movement. Learn the fine arts of equilibristics - that is to balance all sorts of objects on different parts of your body; juggling and other gravity defying skills.
Randy will be performing at the Opera House in Stonington on Wednesday, July 23 at 7 p.m.

Fee $18.


July 29 & 31
Bringing Line to Life: Animating Line and Form with Emotion with Penny Plumb
from 1 to 4 .m.
A drawing workshop in which to explore, experiment, loosen up, and rein in when necessary. We will learn how to vary our line, even draw without line. We will not take ourselves too seriously, yet be prepared for serious surprises. Bring three small, favorite objects.

Illustrated films will be shown at the Opera House in Stonington on Wednesday, July 30 at 7 p.m.

Fee $37. Materials $5.


August 5 & 7
Featherweight Felt with Chris Leith
from 1 to 4 .m.
Learn the basics of making thin, almost transparent felt on gauze fabric. You will be able to complete at least on scarf or length of fabric.

Fee $37. Materials $8.


August 12 & 14
Seeing with the Heart’s Eye:
Writing with Martin Steingesser and Calligraphy with Jan Owen
from 1 to 4 p.m.
Find and make word images that resonate with our reflective and feeling life, and visually representing them with different writing tools and colors in a broadside or book.
Martin will be performing at the Opera House in Stonington on Wednesday, August 13 at 7 p.m.

Fee $37. Materials $5.


August 19, 21, 26 & 28
Paper Mache That Moves with Mia Kanazawa and Jennifer Morrow Wilson
from 1 to 4 p.m. Fee: $65 Materials: $10
We will use movement exploration to envision a sculpture that moves. It can be a toy, a puppet, a sculpture or a dance partner. Working from sketches and/or direct modeling in chicken wire, we'll shape the armature, cover it with a paper mache or handmade paper skin, then finish it with paint and other additions. After the pieces are completed, we will bring them to life with movement. Participants may work in groups or individually.
Mia will be performing at the Opera House in Stonington on Wednesday, August 27 at 7 p.m.

Fee $65. Materials $10.
